2013 is only a day away and like the billions of other people across the U.S. and around the globe, I've vowed to make a few resolutions for the new year.  As of right now, I have 2 major resolutions I'd like to follow through on to better myself and live a healthier, happier life.

#1.  Read through the Bible.  I try to spend time daily in God's Word, but I've never successfully read through the entire Bible.  I've set this goal for myself several times in the past but have ended up making excuses and giving up on it.  Rather than try and read front to back cover, I've purchased the One Year Bible that allows you to read through Scripture in chronological order.  I'm pretty pumped about it!  I picked mine up at Lifeway Christian Store here in town, but you can purchase one online at Amazon as well as Barnes and Noble.  I'm sure there are even downloadable versions for your Kindle and other eReaders.

#2. Lose Weight.  I've always battled with my weight and have pretty much tried every diet out there to no avail.  A few years ago I did the Weight Watchers program and found it successful.  I lost down to my goal weight then decided I didn't need to diet anymore because I was where I wanted to be.  Of course shortly after I began gaining back the weight.  So a few years and several pounds later I'm back and ready to start again.  Rather than spending money we dont have on weight watchers meetings, I'm going to use the PointsPlus program materials I already have and diet from home.  Stephen is going to diet with me and help keep me accountable.  Right now my goal is to lose 40 pounds.  I know that's a hefty goal (pun intended), but I'm motivated and want to look better and feel better about myself.  Stephen said if I reach my goal he would buy me a Coach purse!  I've never owned anything designer in my entire life so Stephen wanted to give me something special.  That's a sacrifice for him, because if you know us, you know that we are not rich by any means and value every penny we earn...especially with a mortgage payment and student loans looming each month.  I'm going to try and post some Weight Watchers recipes as well as other tips and tools I use on here if anyone is interested.  I promise I won't turn this into a weight loss blog haha.

That's it for my resolutions.  What are your New Years Resolutions this year??

Have a blessed and happy 2013 with your loved ones!!

Clancy Update

Well, we've officially had our sweet Clancy girl for 3 weeks and she has already added so much joy to our lives.  Most of the cats I've known in my lifetime have always been skiddish and weren't really a fan of people, but Clancy is quite the opposite.  She is an extremely calm cat who loves to cuddle up in your lap and let you rub under her chin and belly.  She is a nuzzler too and is a fan of giving kisses!

Clancy in her favorite spot...under the Christmas tree!

After a little research we have determined that she's an American Short Hair cat and is probably a little over a year old.  She is a very vocal cat and will talk to you all day long (she gets it from me), and Stephen recently taught her how to sit on command!  She is one smart kitty!!!

We finally had her spayed and got her vaccinations this week, so she's well on her way to being in tip top condition!

Clancy after her surgery...she's not a fan of the e-collar!

Sound asleep in her bed

I'm quickly turning into a cat lover!

M&M Turtles

Last night I spent some time making goodies for our Teen Moms Christmas party.  M&M Turtles are a favorite around my house so I thought I would share the recipe with you!

What you'll need:
  • 1 bag of pretzels (I used Snyder's of Hanover Pretzel squares
  • 1 bag of M&Ms (I used the red and green Christmas pack!)
  • 1 bag of Rolos (If you can find the Rolo minis, they work best, but normal size will do too!)

  1. Heat your oven on low.  On a baking sheet line up your pretzel squares in rows.
  2. Place a rolo on top of each square (right side up) then place in oven until they become shiny (it only took about a minute or two for mine)
  3. Remove your Rolo pretzels from the oven and gently place an M&M on top, pressing down on top of the rolo.
  4. Let turtles cool completely and serve!

So easy you can even get the kids involved in helping!  Enjoy!

Sleep Deprived

One phrase I heard several times from people while I was engaged was "marriage calls for many sacrifices"...well, recently my big sacrifice has been sleep.  I have those Long family genes which means I need at least a good 8 hours to feel rejuvenated (I blame my father).  But since marrying Stephen I've had a difficult time sleeping through the night and a number of things have contributed to this.  First of all we share a full size bed (cheek to cheek if you will) so every move Stephen makes wakes me up.  Secondly, Stephen is a ninja sleeper.  We are talking karate chops, elbows to the face, roundhouse kicks, jerking body movements, etc.  Chuck Norris has nothing on Stephen...seriously.  As if the convulsions weren't bad enough, Stephen is also a sleep talker.  He will sit up in the middle of the bed and speak gibberish that doesn't make any sense and sometimes he'll even throw a shout or two in there.  I like to refer to this as sleeping in tongues.

Let me further paint the picture for you...

Exhibit A:  A few weeks ago I woke up after being elbowed in the head...we're talking blunt force trauma.  I screamed out in pain and heard Stephen reply, "I thought I was in the Hunger Games."  I'm not sure which I'm madder about, the elbow to the face or the fact that he would willingly take me out if we were ever to compete in the real Hunger Games.  Who am I kidding, we all know I wouldn't last a day.  I don't like to run.

Moving on....

Exhibit B:  One early morning I woke up to Stephen pinching my face as hard as he could.  I screamed "OWWWWW, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?" and shoved him off me.  He just rolled over like nothing happened.

Exhibit C: One night I woke up to Stephen nuzzling his face as hard as he could into my shoulder.  After shaking him vigorously to get him to wake up he said "Sorry, I thought you were Lydia." (Lydia is our 2 year old niece).  Why he would've been nuzzling her is beyond me, but you get the idea.  Major creeper when he's asleep.

So as you can see, it looks like it's time for the Cash's to invest in a Queen sized bed!  Until then, many more stories of Stephen's sleep shenanigans to come!

Clancy the Cat

I'm proud to announce that we have a new member of the Cash family (no, I'm not pregnant).  Meet Clancy the cat!

Clancy Cash

Monday night Stephen and I went for a run and this little guy followed us home and has been with us ever since.     Stephen named him Tom Clancy...but after further inspection we realized that HE is really a SHE.  So we shortened it to Clancy.  I've always had dogs growing up and always said I would NEVER be a cat person...but seriously guys, how could you not love that sweet little face?  She is honestly one of the kindest animals I've ever seen.  Very loving and affectionate.  We found her in a storm drain crying and covered in filth.  When we got home we gave her some food and she devoured it!  I have never seen an animal as hungry as she was.  The poor thing was starving!  My sister and her husband used to live in the neighborhood we live in now and she said while they were living there, they used to see stray cats all the time.  Apparently people just come to our neighborhood and drop cats off.  It's really sad...but now she has a new family!
Clancy all clean after her bath!

Since I know nothing about owning a cat, I'm in need of any advice I can get on how to best take care of her.  We are wanting her to be an outside cat, but everytime we let her in the backyard, she squeezes under the fence to get out.  We gave her a bath and have let her stay in the house when we are home, but she sleeps in the garage at night since it's cold outside and since we aren't so sure we want her to be an inside cat.  So, anyone have any advice on what we need to do to take care of her?  I'm thinking the first stop needs to be the vet.  She doesn't seem to have any fleas, and we've given her a bath and flea treatment...but I know we should probably make sure she is healthy overall and get her vaccinated and such.  So all you cat people out there...bring on the advice!  We will gladly take it!

Clancy loves Stephen!

Maybe she will scare all those pesky mice away we've been seeing around our house!
